Art
Through our rich curriculum, children learn about a range of artists and various art techniques, which progress as they move on through the school. We use a variety of media and often work towards emulating the style of a particular artist.
Music
All children follow the Charanga Music curriculum where they learn to listen to and appraise different musical genres as well as how to improvise, compose and perform. They will learn how to play the glockenspiel and recorder and other percussion instrument. Children also have an option to take part in small group tuition in the guitar, ukulele, keyboard and drums ran by peripatetic teachers. We have a very popular choir who regularly perform at events and take part in music festivals.
Design and Technology
Design and Technology at Highwoods develops children’s skills and knowledge in design, structures, mechanisms, electrical control and a range of materials, including food. It encourages children’s creativity and encourages them to think about important issues. It is also a subject where children can work in groups sharing both knowledge and skills. It teaches them how to take risks and so become more resourceful, innovative, enterprising and capable.
